GMO Internet Group Realizes Japan’s First AI-CEO Embodied in a Humanoid Robot —
AI-CEO “Humanoid Masatoshi Kumagai” Brought to Life

GMO Internet Group, Inc. (Founder, Chairman and Group CEO: Masatoshi Kumagai), together with its group company GMO AI & Robotics Corporation (President: Tomohiro Uchida; “GMO AIR”), has realized AI-CEO “Humanoid Masatoshi Kumagai” — Japan’s first AI-CEO physically embodied in a humanoid robot. This achievement is part of the “GMO Brain AI Project,” aimed at accelerating decision-making for partners (employees) through the use of proprietary large-language models.

About AI-CEO “Humanoid Masatoshi Kumagai”

The AI-CEO “Humanoid Masatoshi Kumagai” answers spoken questions with responses based on Masatoshi Kumagai’s thinking, philosophy, and GMO-ism — the core values and operational principles shared across GMO Internet Group. The system is built on an AI engine trained through the development of the internal tool “AI Masatoshi Kumagai” and mounted on a Unitree G1 humanoid robot. It can recognize and understand spoken questions and provide voice responses reflecting Kumagai’s approach and perspective.

This is the first instance in Japan where an AI-CEO has been implemented in a physical robot form — as opposed to virtual avatars, videos, web interfaces, or internal portal platforms — marking a milestone in embodied intelligence. The humanoid robot is scheduled for its first public unveiling at the GMO AI & Robotics Conference & Awards 2025 on September 25, 2025.

Masatoshi Kumagai’s Comment

Under the GMO-ism / GMO Meeting Strategy 10 Principles, the group applies AI-assisted recording and minute-taking for all meetings. These efforts are intended not only to improve operational efficiency but also to capture and accumulate decision rationale and insights as data the AI can learn from. This accumulated data will further evolve the AI-CEO “Humanoid Masatoshi Kumagai,” enabling it to make well-balanced judgments in a wide range of business contexts.

With capabilities such as around-the-clock operation and the potential for unlimited replication, the humanoid AI-CEO could, for example, attend internal strategic meetings autonomously or participate in 1:1 dialogues with all partners (approximately 8,000 employees).
