GMO Internet Group Running Team Wins Japan’s Top Corporate Ekiden Title!
— First-ever Victory at the “New Year Ekiden 2026” with Three Section Records and a New Tournament Record—

GMO Internet Group Co., Ltd. is delighted to announce that the GMO Internet Group Running Team achieved its first championship victory at the 70th All-Japan Corporate Team Ekiden Championships (New Year Ekiden 2026). Competing with determination, the team set three new section records and a new overall tournament record, earning the title of Japan’s top corporate ekiden team.

This historic win is the result of tremendous support from fans and partners, and the unwavering efforts of every team member. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for the encouragement that has driven us forward.

Race Summary

In the first section, Yuya Yoshida delivered a strong finish, handing off in 9th place only five seconds behind the leader. In the second section, Yuto Imae broke the section record to propel the team into first place. Takato Suzuki and Michael Temoi Kiplangat maintained that lead through the third and fourth sections, respectively, setting the stage for rookie runner Aoi Ota. Ota continued the momentum with a new section record, followed by another record-setting performance by Yudai Shimazu in the sixth section. With the team well ahead, rookie Masaya Tsurukawa secured the victory in the final seventh section, crossing the finish line in first place. 

With this achievement, the GMO Internet Group Running Team clinched its first championship in its 10-year history and in its seventh challenge at the New Year Ekiden. The team will continue striving for even greater heights and appreciates your continued support.

Founded in April 2016 to promote internet services that enrich everyday life and to communicate driving values through sports, the GMO Internet Group Running Team has competed with the goal of nurturing world-class athletes. The team celebrated its first victory in the East Japan Corporate Team Ekiden in 2024 and has participated in the New Year Ekiden every year since 2020. In the previous edition (69th), the team finished in fourth place, demonstrating strong overall performance as it continues to strengthen toward becoming the No.1 team.
